Trust Me I’m a Scientist: The Role of Science in a Post-Truth World

In a post-truth world in which alternative facts abound it is hard to know where to turn to for the truth. Bias in the media, politicians that can’t be believed, and big business with their own interests, where can the proletariat turn to and not be hoodwinked. Even science, the venerable source of verifiable knowledge, has fallen victim to its own arrogance due to the foibles of corruptible scientists. Come and share the ramblings of a scientist, and perhaps together we can start framing the new foundation from which truth, and nothing but the truth, can rise supreme again.

The Book is Dead. Long Live the Book.

In this modern age of information technology and the proliferation of digital devices, knowledge is literally at our fingertips yet people are reading less. Is it due to information overload? The relentless amount of content we are bombarded with second-by-second through endless feeds. Have we become nations of headline readers, transfixed by eye-catching hyperbole but too time poor to apply even rudimentary critical and analytical thought in getting to the truth of the content behind the headline? Come and share the musings of a bibliophile, and perhaps together we can unlock the mystery of the book, the source of knowledge, and from the last vestiges of texts rebuild our personal libraries.
